How a design project works
- Walk the propertyWe look at sun and shade, drainage, soil, views you want to hide or show off, and how you use the yard.
- Plan & plant listYou get a layout and a plant list with sizes, plus a clear, itemized price.
- Bed prepRemove old plants and sod, cut new edges, and amend the soil with compost and topsoil.
- InstallPlants go in at the right depth and spacing for their mature size, then we mulch and water everything in.
- AftercareWritten watering instructions, and the option to have us maintain it so it fills in the way it was designed.
Plants that do well on Long Island
We're in USDA hardiness zone 7, with sandy, acidic soil, salt air near the shore, and deer in many North Shore neighborhoods. We pick plants that thrive in those conditions instead of fighting them. That often means natives and proven performers such as:
- Shrubs: inkberry holly, bayberry, hydrangea, boxwood, and arborvitae or holly for screening
- Perennials: coneflower, black-eyed Susan, catmint, daylily, hosta for shade
- Grasses: switchgrass and little bluestem, both native to Long Island
Planting near the water or in deer country? Tell us. We'll pick salt-tolerant or deer-resistant plants so you're not replacing them next year.

Poolside landscaping
"Poolside landscaping" is one of the most-searched projects across Long Island, and pools need a different plan than the rest of the yard. Plants near the water should be clean: no heavy leaf drop, no berries, nothing with thorns where people walk barefoot. We use ornamental grasses, boxwood, hydrangea set back from the edge, and evergreen screening for privacy, with a paver or stone border so mulch and soil stay off the deck. Add a paver pool surround and the whole area reads as one space.
What landscape projects cost
Most full planting and design projects on Long Island land between $3,000 and $15,000+, depending on the size of the beds, plant sizes and how much prep the site needs. A single new foundation bed can be well under that. Every quote is itemized so you can see exactly where the money goes, and we can phase a big plan over two seasons.
Want hardscape too? We handle patios and walkways and drip irrigation for new beds as part of the same project.
